2. Could I get a better price if I contacted the establishment directly?
Accommodation prices can vary according to occupancy levels, the season and expected demand.
We agree price parity with each establishment. This means that we show the same prices as other reservations websites and the establishment itself, and in many cases we negotiate lower on-line rates for our websites.*

*This depends on the season and availability. Prices may be higher during peak periods.

3. How do I know what my room will be like?
All of our accommodation has clear photos and detailed descriptions, and sometimes a video as well. They are all located on our map page so that you can check their location in the city. We encourage everyone who books with us to rate and comment on their experience at a particular establishment and you can read this feedback on each establishment's profile page.

5. How do I get to New York City centre from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport?
There are 3 options: bus, subway or taxi.

(i) New York Airport Service Express Bus: The fare is $13, pay the bus driver in cash when you board. The buses operate once every twenty to thirty minutes from 6am to midnight. The journey is 45 minutes-1 hour and there are several stops in Manhattan.

(ii) New York City subways and buses run to JFK for $2.00. If you have large quantities of luggage, you may find it difficult to manage this long trip. Take the free JFK parking shuttle to the long term car park. This drops you off right at the "JFK" subway station, which takes you through Brooklyn and connects to all major subway routes.

(iii) Taxis into the city take anything from 30-60 minutes. They cost $50 "Flat Fare" to Manhattan, not including bridge tolls and tip. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.

6. How do I get to New York City centre from New York La Guardia Airport?
There are also 3 options: bus, subway or taxi.

(i) New York Airport Service Express Bus: The fare is $10, which you pay in cash to the bus driver. The buses operate once every 20-30 minutes from 6:45am and midnight. The trip is 40 minutes – 1 hour and there are several stops in Manhattan.

(ii) New York City subway and buses run to LaGuardia for $2.00.
The easiest route is the M60 bus which picks you up at the airport and drops you off at 116th and Broadway in front of the gates of Columbia University. From here you can take a bus, taxi or subway to anywhere in Manhattan; we don't suggest riding the subway at night if you are new to New York.
Otherwise you can also take the Q33 bus to Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights or 74th Street and Broadway in Jackson Heights Queens. If you get off the bus at Roosevelt Avenue, you can catch the E or F trains into Manhattan. If you get off the bus at 74th Street, you can catch the number 7 train heading into Manhattan. This train stops at Times Square where you can transfer for free to another train to take you anywhere in the city.

(iii) Taxis into the city take anything from 20-40 minutes. They cost $16-$26 not including bridge tolls (these are an additional $3). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.

7. How do I get to New York City centre from New York Newark International Airport?
Newark International Airport, located in Newark, New Jersey, handles both domestic and international flights. While it is a bit further from the city than the other two airports, it is normally less crowded and has more modern facilities. The airport has a Ground Transportation Desk where you can get information when you arrive.

(i) Newark Liberty Airport Express: The journey from Newark costs $12.50 round-trip, or $14 one way (with discounts for kids, the disabled, and seniors). Buses run from 4am -1am between Newark Liberty Airport (terminals A, B, and C), Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street between 8th Ave and 9th Ave), Bryant Park (NW corner of 42nd and 5th Ave), Grand Central (120 East 41st between Park and Lex).
They run every 15 minutes, and the trip is 45 minutes - 1 hour. Tickets can only be purchased online, not from the bus drivers. To purchase tickets, click here:
http://www.ny.com/cgibin/frame.cgi?url=http://www.airtrainnewark.com/airtrainnewark/&frame=/frame/travel.html

(ii) AirTrain Newark: Newark Airport has recently connected its internal monorail. To get to the city centre, you need to take this train to Liberty International Airport, and then the NJ Transit or Amtak train to New York Penn Station. You can buy a ticket to the Newark International Airport Station, check your flight times or buy a ticket there, and be minutes away from your terminal. AirTrain Newark is more practical for people going to New Jersey.

(iii) Taxis into the city take anywhere from 20-45 minutes. They cost $30-$38 not including bridge tolls (these are an additional $10). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.

11. Is the city safe?
Despite having a population of more than 8 million people, New York City consistently ranks in the top ten safest large cities (cities with more than 500,000 people) in the United States. Violent crimes in New York City have dropped by over two thirds in the last decade. Crime has been falling slightly each year since the late 1980s. However, at night time, stick to main streets if you don't know where you are going, it’s better to avoid certain area such as South Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

In crowded subways, keep your wallet in your front pocket, rather than the rear, and keep your purse closed. Don't flaunt jewellery, cameras or cash in public. Most of the popular tourist destinations are well populated and safe. During the daytime, almost all areas of Manhattan are safe for walking, even Harlem and Alphabet City, though the uninitiated may prefer to avoid these neighbourhoods after dark. Times Square is a great place to visit at night and it stays populated until after midnight, when theatre-goers head home. Just be aware of your surroundings and use your common sense.

13. What happens in case of late cancellation (after the indicated cancellation period has expired) or if I do not show up at the establishment?
If you cancel after the cancellation period has expired or if you simply do not show up at the establishment (no-show), you will be charged a full 1 night & taxes for each room you have reserved, by the establishment, plus a $20 processing fee by Newyork50.com. There will be no refund of the amount prepaid online.

Newyork50.com blocks the online calendar for the room or apartment reserved from the moment the reservation is made until the arrival date. This payment secures the reservation for you, and the balance must be paid to the establishment upon check-in.
